Hands Down watches your webcam to catch a hand near your face. That’s a lot of trust to ask for, so here’s exactly what happens — no legalese.
Nothing is recorded
Frames from your webcam are handed to Apple’s on-device vision system, checked for a hand near your face, and thrown away immediately. There is no recording, no screenshot, no buffer — nothing to leak.
No cloud, no account
You never make an account and never sign in. Hands Down doesn’t have a server that sees you, because everything it needs happens on your Mac.
The camera light is honest
macOS turns on the camera light whenever an app uses the camera. Hands Down only watches while detection is on — pause it and the camera is fully released, light off.
No tracking or analytics
There are no trackers, no telemetry, and no “anonymous usage data.” We don’t measure how you use the app because we don’t collect anything to measure.
It works offline
Turn off your Wi-Fi and it still works exactly the same. The only network request Hands Down ever makes is an occasional check for a new version.
